I started watching West Wing about five to six years ago. My father loved it, and would watch it all the time. Being nine at the time, I wasn't a big fan would be an understatement.
When my father got season one on DVD, I remember thinking "Great, now he can watch it whenever he wants and not just on Wednesdays at 9!" Which was when it was on. A couple of days later, I remember walking past my parent's bedroom and hearing my mother laugh. Well, they said curiousity killed the cat, so I walked in and saw my mom watching The West Wing. "No way" I thought. "A show about the government can NOT be funny!" But then I saw a character wearing a Gorton's Fisherman outfit, and I sat down because I had to see what this was all about. And the rest, they say, is history.
Like so many things before it, I became obessed with The West Wing. What made things worse was then I found fanfiction. Stories people created based on the television characters! No way!
Way.
And before I knew it, I was writing stories. My first one was...well, it sucked. I now shake my head in shame. But I do believe that my stories have gotten better over the years. Here's a short one in case anyone one is interested: He Never Knew You really don't have to watch the show to get it.
Anyway, so yes, I became fasinated with the show. I still love it. For many reasons. One being that these people are the smartest, yet dumbest people I have ever saw. It's a little scary that they run our - fictional - country. Really.
Remember: The smartest people in the world.
The characters and the actor who played them:
Charlie Young - Dule Hill
Zoey Barlet - Elizabeth Moss
Josh Lyman - Bradley Whitford
Donna Moss - Janel Moloney
Joey Lucas - Marlee Matlin
Will Bailey - Joshua Malina
Sam Seaborn - Rob Lowe
Ainsley Hayes - Emily Procter
Allison Janney - C.J. Cregg
Danny Concannon - Timothy Busfield
Toby Ziegler - Richard Schiff
Kate Harper - Mary McCormack
Annabeth Schott - Kristen Chenoworth
Amy Gardner - Mary Louise Parker
Congressman Matthew Santos - Jimmy Smitts
Sentor Arnold Vinick - Alan Alda
Mrs. Abby Bartlet - Stockard Channing
President Jed Bartlet - Martin Sheen
Leo McGarry - John Spencer
Also, it's funny how things come together. The other day I was watching an episode when what to my wonders, the characters started talking about Bob Dylan! Congressman Santos is getting asked questions when one of the press asks, "You told Rolling Stone you like Bob Dylan. I was just wondering, which is your favourite album?" The Congressman thinks before answering, "My favourite Bob Dylan album ... I guess I should say "Highway 61 Revisited" and then we can just ease into transportation policy, but really, it's, uh, "Blonde on Blonde". Believe me, there's no policy implications to that!"
Oh, and before I cut it quits, I have one last thing to mention: President Bartlet ROCKS!!!
